Would you really let this woman write your child’s books?

The Twitter Controversy :

J.K Rowling is known for writing her imaginative Harry Potter book series, but as of 2019 she has been under fire for controversial tweets involving trans phobic support and careless use of LGBT terms, and avoiding scientific facts. J.K Rowling first sparked the controversy when she posted her support for Maya Forstater when she lost her job for being outwardly trans phobic, stating “Dress however you please…Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #istandwithmaya”. J.K Rowling’s views have otherwise been quite inclusive, but this tweet has caused major backlash. People of the internet fired back with “#JKRowlingIsATerf” in defense of the LGBT community. Her books are beloved by children and adults everywhere, and although we can still enjoy them of course, they are now associated with someone who refutes scientific evidence of something very real and denies the recognition of very real people. Gender dysphoria is a term that describes the distress a person feels due to a mismatch between their gender identity and their sex assigned at birth. People who experience gender dysphoria are typically transgender. According to Web MD “Assigning someone’s sex is based on biology — chromosomes, anatomy, and hormones. But a person’s gender identity — the inner sense of being male, female, or both — doesn’t always match their biology. Transgender people say they were assigned a sex that isn’t true to who they are.” Gender identity is a real neurological aspect that is separate from our biological sex. It is clear that J.K Rowling is negligent to gather the correct facts in order to build a proper claim and does not truly understand the damage of her contention. People of all ages look to J.K Rowling as the kind of person you should aspire to be- inclusive to all- but is she still just as inviting as she used to be?
